More than a quarter million members of the Native American Church are facing a grim future. They use peyote as the holy sacrament in their religious ceremonies, akin to communion in Christian churches. But the tiny cactus has been decimated by over-harvesting and land-use change in south Texas. At stake is the 6,000-year-old bond between Native Americans and their most sacred cactus.
